IPS uses a five-year Curriculum Review Cycles in order to assure that our curriculum matches the state standards and is meeting the needs of our students and families. Educators are welcome to join our local Curriculum Review committee called the "Compass Committee." Here, educators work with the Director of Teaching and Learning to participate in the district's Curriculum Review Cycle and, ultimately, to make recommendations for curricular adoption and/or writing. If the curriculum is locally-created, it follows the Massachusetts state standards and is written in the district's common Understanding by Design template (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005).

Content areas that have recently gone through the Curriculum Review Cycle include the following:

  • Mathematics (resulting in the adoption of Illustrative Mathematics, grades K-8)
  • English Language Arts (resulting in the adoption of Wit and Wisdom, grades K-5)
